USS Cushing Association Reunion

25th Annual Reunion

September 25, 26, 27, 2008 at Plymouth, North Carolina - Hosted by Snuffy and Jan Smith, assisted by Dick and Harriet Stafford

Plymouth is an historic port town on the Roanoke River, where we'll recieve a warm welcome from a community that is a devoted to the name Cushing, and any town could ever be,

Here are the highlights of thie 2008 Reunion

For air travellers arriving at the GREENVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA airport, there will be shuttle service to Plymouth.

Reunion Headquarters will be at the Holiday Inn Express, with overflow at the Port O' Plymouth Inn.

Tentative Schedule of Events

Details are very sketchy at present, but will be fleshed out as news arrives.

Thursday, 9/25

Supper will be in a local Church Hall.

Friday, 9/26

Bus to Hope Plantation for Lunch, and a background talk. We will then return to Plymouth for a free afternoon. You will have time to visit the port area, and the Port O' Plymouth Marine Museum with its many items concering CDR Cushing and the Albemarle. Dinner and refreshments will be in the Boat Museum.

Saturday, 9/27

In the morning, off to Somerset Plantation, returning to the Plymouth Baptist Church for the business meeting (casual dress) and Lunch. In the evening, we will have supper under a tent on the grounds of the Marine Museum, and a talk by a noted authority on CDR Cushing. All of this will be follwed by a re-enactment of the destruction of the Albemarle.

OTHER INFO

There will be continous shuttle service between the port area and the hotels on the commercial strips .25 mile away.
While in the area, you may with to visit other points of interest in this part of Eastern North Carolina.
On the Outer Banks, there is Kill Devil Hill, site of the Wright Brothers' First Flight. This is about a 1.75 hour drive. Closer are Edenton, and New Bern. More details will be listed as they become known.
